Founded in 1970 by Richard Jackson, this school in Surrey is a sixth form boarding school, offering preparation for life after school and a stepping stone between school and university. Life at the school, for the circa 340 students, is close to a university campus.

The school’s A-level academic focus has for the last two decades placed the school amongst the cream of the Country’s best schools. Notable alumni include Emily Blunt, Emily Beecham, Catherine and Lizzy Ward Thomas and Hans Zimmer.

The school arranges their studies and leisure pursuits into several houses. However, it is the Main House (picture below) that we have been engaged to provide Architectural, Structural Engineering and Sustainable design services for thus building extension project. Plus, we are responsible for the Contract Administration and we will fulfill the role of Principal Designer.

The Main House is an Edwardian mansion set in approximately 200 acres in the Surrey Hills.

Working to a tight time table we will need to work collaboratively with contractors and appointed consultants, over the next few months.

In addition, we will need engage with the Head Master, staff and students throughout the design and development stages to ensure that their requirements and health safety standards are fully aligned with our design and build solution for the project.

Sustainability is important to our clients and therefore will need to incorporate low energy strategies into our design to improve the School’s energy efficiency as part of the building extension project.

Whilst the school is a new client for us, our experience of renovating school buildings covers many years and several projects for Channing School in Highgate, London.
